.:: GTC Chairman receives Distinguished Scholar Award

Thomas Andersson, chairman of the International Council of the Global Trust Center (GTC), based in Malmö, was awarded the prestigious "Distinguished Scholar Award" at the Innovations'07 event, in Dubai, November 18-20, 2007.

Back-to-back with Innovations'07, The Vice-Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) and the GTC Chairman signed a Memorandum of Understanding on participation in the Global Trust Network. The Vice-Chancellor stressed that the UAEU has several agreements with North America but that this is the first signed with a body in the Nordic countries. He declared that he was looking forward to collaboration on the implementation of the Global Policy of the GTC. The body coordinating the next step of that process in Dubai will be the IT College within the UAEU.

The Award recognises contributions of significance for the future development of ICT at international level. In previous years, it has been awarded to, e.g., Dr. Peter Freeman at the US National Science Foundation, and Krishna Nathan, IBM VP and Director of the IBM Research Lab in Zurich.

Thomas Andersson obtained the distinction for his work as deputy director of the OECD where he led several international projects on the use of ICT, for his academic work as president of Jonkoping University which is pioneering research on entrepreneurship and the networked economy, and for his chairmanship in the International Council of the Global Trust Center, an independent international association with representatives from more then 20 countries (at the time), which works to ensure trust and the adoption of a user-centric framework for the digital world.

Innovations'07 – The 4th International Conference in Information Technology – represented a significant forum for presentations of research and innovations enabling progress in information technology. The 2007 conference in Dubai, the 4th since the start in 2004, assembled 600 participants from all over the world.
